Cell-Cell Communication in the Microbial World
|
| Description: |
Location: The Forsyth Institute, Seminar Room A
245 First St., 17th Floor, Cambridge
Speaker: Roberto Kolter, PhD
Professor of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics
Harvard Medical School
CoDirector of the Microbial Sciences Initiative (MSI)
Harvard University
Summary: Microbes communicate with each through the exchange of chemical signals. In this seminar I will describe different microbial interactions where signals play key roles in determining the biological outcome. By taking a historical perspective on the development of this field, I hope to drive home the message that microbes utilize extracellular signaling to accomplish remarkably diverse goals, way beyond the act of coordinating behavior in response to population densities.
